Current Opening: Optician 


Job Summary:

The optician plays a crucial role in ensuring a smooth operation within the clinic. This position requires a combination of technical skills, medical knowledge, excellent customer service skills and exceptional patient care abilities.


Responsibilities Include:


Pre-exam Preparation:

  • Greet patients and escort them to the examination room.
  • Clean exam rooms
  • Review patient medical history, including current medications and relevant health information.
  • Perform preliminary tests such as visual acuity, imaging, intraocular pressure measurement, and pupil dilation as directed by the eye care provider.
  • Ensure all medical equipment, including examination chairs, and diagnostic tools are cleaned and disinfected between patient's use 


Diagnostic Testing:

  • Conduct specialized diagnostic tests such as visual field testing, retinal imaging, and corneal topography.
  • Ensure accuracy and proper documentation of test results in the patient’s electronic health record system.


Assist with Procedures:

  • Prepare patients for procedures.
  • Provide support to eye care providers during procedures.


Contact Lens and Frame Services:

  • Assist patients with contact lens insertion, removal, and care instructions.
  • Perform contact lens fittings and provide guidance on appropriate lens options based on prescription and lifestyle needs.
  • Assist patients in selecting frames and lenses based on their prescription, facial features and lifestyle preferences.
  • Interpret prescriptions written by optometrists and recommend appropriate lens options and coatings.
  • Take accurate measurements for eyeglasses and contact lenses to ensure proper fit and vision correction.
  • Adjust frames to ensure comfort, proper alignment, and optical visual acuity.
  • Process orders, including verifying insurance coverage and obtaining necessary authorizations.
  • Manage inventory levels, including ordering new frames and lenses as needed and conducting regular stock checks.


Patient Education:

  • Educate patients on proper eye care practices, including the importance of regular eye exams, compliance with treatment plans, and preventive measures for eye health.
  • Educate patients on lens options, coatings, and other vision care products and services.


Equipment Maintenance:

  • Ensure proper functioning of diagnostic equipment and instruments.
  • Perform routine maintenance tasks and coordinate repairs as needed.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of examination rooms, clinical areas, and retail environment.
