Do You Need Glasses?
Oct 16, 2023

It's important to have your eyes regularly checked by an optometry doctor. In addition to regular appointments based on your age, you may need to schedule an appointment outside of this timeframe if you notice signs that indicate you may need glasses. According to Popular Science, it's estimated that about 40% of the population in the United States needs glasses. Here are some of the signs that you may experience if you're one of these people.

Constant Squinting

One of the signs that your eyesight isn't perfect is having to squint to focus. If you find yourself having to squint to read a book, magazine, newspaper, computer, tablet, or cellphone, you may need glasses. This is especially true if you find yourself squinting frequently and if it's not something that you've normally had to do.

Blurry Objects

In addition to squinting, you may notice that objects and people are blurry. It may take your eyes longer to adjust when the lighting changes, when you first wake up in the morning, or when you look at one item after another. If you notice that your sight is blurry or it takes longer for your eyes to adjust to changes, it's best to get your eyes professionally examined.

Frequent Headaches

There are many reasons why you may start to get headaches or migraines. However, one of the most common reasons is because you need glasses. In fact, if you complain about frequent headaches, your primary care physician will likely request you schedule an appointment with an optometry doctor to rule out eye issues causing your headaches.

Tired Eyes

The final sign that you may need glasses is that your eyes are getting tired or become fatigued easily. You may notice that your eyes feel heavier, that you find yourself rubbing your eyes, or that your eye muscles start to twitch due to eye strain and fatigue.

If you're experiencing any of the issues described above, you may need eyeglasses to help you see. The best way to determine if you can benefit from glasses is to schedule an eye examination with an experienced optometry doctor.
